Fernbank Garden Club
The Fernbank Garden Club was formed in 1922 and is the oldest continuously active garden club in Cincinnati, Ohio. The club meets monthly to celebrate their love for gardening by sharing gardening how-tos, planning service projects, or enjoying gardening related outings or speakers.
They are a vital part of maintaining the natural beauty of Sayler Park. They spearhead the maintenance of the beautiful flower beds in Nelson Sayler Memorial Park by organizing regular clean up days Spring through Fall.
They also ensuring our continued status as a Tree City USA community by coordinating a special program for planting of new trees.
In the 1920’s, Mrs. Mary Bagot Reedy was a neighborhood leader. As a member of the Fernbank Garden Club she worked with the city and was instrumental in the development of the buildings and landscape of Fernbank Park. When she was not making her delicious strawberry jam, or attending her Fortnightly Reading Club, she had irises planted all along Gracely Drive. To this day you will still see the purple irises blooming and standing tall in the springtime of our beautiful Sayler Park.
“The organized purpose of creating the Fernbank Garden Club is to stimulate the knowledge and the love of gardening, to aid in the protection of native trees, plants and birds, and to encourage civic planning.”
